ted•der

(ˈtɛd ər)

n. 1. a person who teds. 2. an implement that turns and loosens hay after mowing in order to hasten drying. [1400–50]

Tedder

A horse-drawn implement for fluffing hay after it was cut, and primarily after windrowing. It was intended to stir up and turn over extra heavy hay to help the part near the ground to dry, or to help the drying of cut grass that had been dampened by an unexpected rain. In general, tedding was done after wilting, but before leaves became dry enough to be brittle and be lost during the remainder of the haying operation. Tedders were used primarily in the more humid parts of the country and were seldom seen in the West, Southwest, and Midwest.
