platelet glycoprotein receptor

platelet glycoprotein receptor

One of a range of receptors on blood platelets that bind glycoproteins. Platelet glycoprotein receptor IIb/IIIa binds fibrinogen, thereby promoting platelet aggregation and the formation of a blood clot within a blood vessel. This receptor can be blocked by various substances such as HIRUDIN or a number of synthetic drugs such as tirofiban.
