a river in the Republic of South Africa. The Tugela rises in the Drakensberg Mountains and empties into the Indian Ocean north of Durban. The river is famous for the Tugela Falls (933 m high), located in the river’s upper course, the highest waterfall in Africa and one of the highest in the world.
