Revin, Aleksei Ivanovich

Born Sept. 19, 1904, in the village of Lodygino, now in Kaliazin Raion, Kalinin Oblast; died Oct. 9, 1974, in Moscow. Soviet publishing figure. Member of the CPSU from 1928.

The son of a peasant, Revin graduated from the Communist Institute of Journalism in 1932 and the Higher Party School of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1958. He began his career in 1924 as a typographer. He worked in the printing and publishing offices of the newspaper Pravda from 1931 to 1947, becoming director in 1937. From 1947 to 1949 he headed the Association of State Book and Magazine Publishing Houses (OGIZ) under the Council of Ministers of the USSR. From February 1949 to the end of his life, Revin was director of the Sovetskaia Entsiklopediia (Soviet Encyclopedia) Publishing House. He made an important contribution to the development of Soviet encyclopedia publication.

Revin was awarded three Orders of the Red Banner of Labor and several medals.
