Platyops

Platyops

a genus of large fossil amphibians of the super-order Labyrinthodontia. The Platyops lived in the late Permian period. Their length was about 1 m. The snout, as in gavials, was long and narrow; it broadened at the tip to accommodate large grasping teeth. The nostrils were far back in the head, near the eye sockets. The Platyops lived in freshwaters and fed on fish. Three species are known from the Ural Region.
