Plavni
a Russian term for river floodplains that are covered by thickets of reed, cattail, or sedge and are submerged for extended periods. Plavni occupy considerable areas in the deltas of the Prut, Dnestr, Danube, Dnieper, Don, and Kuban’ rivers. They are drained and used for agriculture after land reclamation work.
