Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drug

Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drug

An independent, statutory and non-executive non-departmental expert body established under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 which advises the central government on drug-related issues in the UK. The Council makes recommendations to the government on the control of dangerous or otherwise harmful drugs, including classification and scheduling under the Act. The Council considers substances being misused and substances which have abuse potential and weighs whether those substances' harmful effects suffice to cause a social harm to be addressed by policy makers and practitioners.
