a city under republic jurisdiction in the Bashkir ASSR. Located on the Usen’ River in the Kama River basin. Population, 44,000 (1975). Tuimazy has a railroad station on the Ul’ianovsk-Ufa line. A major center of the petroleum industry of the Volga-Ural Oil-Gas Region, the city was founded after the discovery in 1937 of the Tuimazy oil field. Tuimazy is a petroleum-pipeline junction. Industry is represented by a gas refinery; a carbon black plant; plants that manufacture machinery for the chemical industry, geophysical equipment and instruments, medical glass, wall materials, and reinforced-concrete products; the Bashkir Cloth Combine; a meat-packing plant; a butter factory; and a paper mill. Tuimazy has an evening industrial technicum and a medical school.
