Pyrocollodion
Pyrocollodion
a complex, homogenous ester of cellulose nitrate with a 12.4 percent nitrogen content. Pyrocollodion is insoluble in alcohol and soluble in a mixture of alcohol and ether. It was discovered in 1890 by D. I. Mendeleev, who proposed using it as a better smokeless gunpowder than the foreign-made pyroxilin.
