symbolic language[sim′bäl·ik ′laŋ·gwij] (computer science) A language which expresses addresses and operation codes of instructions in symbols convenient to humans rather than in machine language. symbolic language(1) A programming language that uses symbols, or mnemonics, for expressing operations and operands. All modern programming languages are symbolic languages.
