Tokarev, Aleksandr Maksimovich

Born Nov. 27, 1921, in Omsk. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the CPSU since 1942.

The son of an office worker, Tokarev graduated from the Kuibyshev Construction Engineering Institute in 1949. He served in the Soviet Army from 1940 to 1945 and fought in the Great Patriotic War. In 1949 he took part in the construction of the Novo-kuibyshevsk Petroleum Refinery as a foreman, work superintendent, and section chief.

From 1951 to 1967, Tokarev held various positions in Kuibyshev Oblast. In 1951 and 1952 he served as secretary of the Stavropol’skii city committee of the CPSU, and from 1952 to 1955 he was first secretary of the Novokuibyshevsk city committee of the CPSU. He was a department head of the Kuibyshev oblast committee of the CPSU from 1956 to 1958 and the committee’s secretary in 1958 and 1959. From 1959 to 1963, Tokarev served as chairman of the Kuibyshev oblast executive committee. From 1963 to 1967 he was secretary of the Kuibyshev oblast committee of the CPSU, and in 1963 and 1964 he was first secretary of the Kuibyshev industrial oblast committee of the CPSU.

Tokarev became minister of industrial construction of the USSR in February 1967. In 1966 he was made a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He served as a deputy to the sixth through ninth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Tokarev has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
