tehuantepecer[tə′wän·tə‚pek·ər] (meteorology) A violent squally wind from north or north-northeast in the Gulf of Tehuantepec in winter; it originates in the Gulf of Mexico, as a norther which crosses the isthmus and blows through the gap between the Mexican and Guatemalan mountains. tehuantepecerA very strong, steady, and sometimes violent wind from land onto the Pacific waters off southern Mexico and northern Central America. It is confined mostly to the Gulf of Tehuantepec and occurs in colder months of the year. |
