 [ti-ko-pla´nin] a glycopeptide antibiotic produced by the bacterium Actinoplanes teichomyceticus, used as a less toxic alternative to vancomycin in the treatment of moderate to severe infections caused by gram-positive bacteria where other antibiotics can not be used.
