a breed of rabbits raised for meat and fur. The silver rabbit was developed in 1952 at the Petrovsk (Poltava Oblast) and Tula (Tula Oblast) fur-farming sovkhozes. The breed was obtained from the Champagne breed. The mean liveweight is 4.5 kg (maximum 6.3 kg). A litter contains six to eight young. The pelt is silvery blue and is used in natural form and to imitate more expensive furs. Young silver rabbits are produced at the Pushnoi Fur-farming Sovkhoz in Tula Oblast, the Petrovskii Fur-farming Sovkhoz in Poltava Oblast, and the Biriulinskii Fur-farming Sovkhoz in the Tatar ASSR.
