On the southwestern border of WA at the mouth of the Columbia River; organized Apr 25, 1854 (prior to statehood) from Lewis County. Name Origin: For a Chinook tribe and chief, Wakiacum, a name believed to mean 'tall trees' or 'big timber.' The spelling was probably changed to reflect the Indian pronunciation
