Scipione

Scipione

(Gino Bonichi) (shēpyô`nā; jē`nō bōnē`kē), 1904–33, Italian painter. Together with Mario Mafai, Scipione was a cofounder of the Roman school, an expressionist movement, in 1928. His highly personal symbolism depicts fantasy tinged with violence. Roman Courtesan (1930; Mattioli Coll., Milan) is a characteristic work.
