Tuloma
Tuloma
a river in Murmansk Oblast, RSFSR. The Tuloma is 64 km long and drains an area of 6,250 sq km. It originates in Lake Notozero, which has an area of 78.9 sq km, and empties into Kola Gulf of the Barents Sea. Fed by snow and rain, the river has a mean flow rate of 241 cu m per sec. The high-water period is from May through September. The river freezes between late December and February, and the ice breaks up between April and early June. The main tributary is the Pecha from the right. The Tuloma is used for floating timber. The Verkhniaia Tuloma and Nizhniaia Tuloma hydroelectric power plants, the areas of whose reservoirs are 745 sq km and 38 sq km, respectively, are on the river.
