Tumcha

 

(Finnish, Tuntsa), a river in Murmansk Oblast, RSFSR, with its sources in Finland and its lower course in the Karelian ASSR; a left tributary of the Kovda River. The Tumcha is 207 km long and drains an area of 5,240 sq km. The river rises in the Manselká Ridge and flows through several lakes before empting into the lake Sushozero. It is fed by snow and rain. The mean flow rate 26 km from the mouth is 51 cu m per sec. The Tumcha freezes in late October or November, and the ice breaks up in May.
