Pleurococcus

Pleurococcus

a genus of green algae that seems to have a single species. The spherical cells are single or joined in groups, sometimes forming small branches. The protoplast lacks visible vacuoles; there is one chloroplast, which has no pyrenoids. Pleurococcus is ubiquitous, forming green films on trees, rocks, and soil. The alga can withstand complete desiccation.
