Qazvini, Mirza Mohammad Abdulbahhab

 

Born Mar. 30, 1877, in Qazvin; died May 27, 1949, in Tehran. Iranian literary scholar and textologist.

Between 1903 and 1940, Qazvini worked in London, Paris, and Berlin on Persian and Arabic manuscripts in cooperation with noted European Orientalists and mastered European techniques of textual criticism. Characteristic of Qazvini’s work is profound knowledge of language and the factual background, scrupulousness, and critical inquiry. He edited and published texts of the Divan-e Hafez-e Shirazi (with Q. Ghani), Al-Mu’jam fi ma’ayiri ash’ari’l-Ajam of Shams-e Qeys, Lubab al-Al-bab of Mohammad Owfi, the Marzban-nameh of Sad al-Din Varavini, the Tarikh-e Jahangusha of Joveyni, the Chahar Maqaleh of Nezami Aruzi, and the Siyasat-nameh of Nezam al-Molk. He is also the author of articles on the history of Persian literature.
