(rīn`hou'zən), former town, North Rhine–Westphalia, NW Germany, a port on the Rhine River; chartered 1934. Manufactures include metal products, machinery, textiles, mining and chemical equipment, cement goods, beer, and liquor. In 1975 it was incorporated into the city of DuisburgDuisburg

Rheinhausen

 

a city in the Federal Republic of Germany, in the Land of Nordrhein-Westfalen, on the Rhine River. Linked by a bridge with the city of Duisburg. Population, 68,300 (1972). Rheinhausen is a river port, with a freight turnover of more than 4 million tons (1972), and a railroad junction. The city expanded in connection with the construction of a metallurgical plant at the end of the 19th century. Rheinhausen has a metallurgical industry and produces steel structural members and machinery. It also has a textile industry. Coal is mined nearby.
