specific absorption rate

specific absorption rate

An MRI term for the radio frequency (RF) energy absorbed per unit of mass of an object, measured in watts per kilogram (W/kg). The greatest concern with RF exposure is the potential for heating patients’ tissues, which is directly related to the specific absorption rate.

specific absorption rate

The rate at which electromagnetic energy is absorbed by a kilogram of tissue, usually expressed as the heat absorbed by the tissue, or as the power absorbed per unit of mass. See also: rate
