RhinophymaRhinophymathe swelling of the skin of the nose, mainly near the nasal tip and wings. Rhinophyma usually develops in men 40 to 50 years of age. Alcoholism, chronic gastrointestinal diseases, and unhealthy environmental conditions, such as dust and frequent chilling, may be conducive to the development of rhinophyma. The disease starts with dilation of the blood vessels of the skin and swelling of the sebaceous glands. The nose gradually becomes extremely deformed, frequently turning a conspicuous dark red, bluish crimson, or violet color. Rhinophyma is treated surgically. rhinophymarhinophyma[ri″no-fi´mah]rhi·no·phy·ma(rī'nō-fī'mă),rhinophymaBulbous nose, WC Fields nose ENT A nasal nosology not known in ♀, which is an end-stage acne rosacea, producing a bulbous proboscis.
