Aodium acetate formalin, a tissue fixative containing mercuric chloride, which is the optimal fixative for lymph node, spleen and bone marrow. B5 is a “high-maintenance” fixative that must be prepared fresh and which contains mercury, a toxic metal; it is not particularly popular in histopathology labs.
