Plovdiv Treaty of 1947 on Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance

a treaty concluded between the People’s Republic of Albania and the People’s Republic of Bulgaria on December 16 in the village of Krichim, Plovdiv District, Bulgaria.

The term of the treaty was 20 years, with automatic renewal for each subsequent five years in the absence of denunciation 12 months prior to expiration of the current term. Each of the contracting parties pledged to provide the other with military or other assistance in the event of an attack by Germany or any third state and not to enter into any alliances or to take part in any actions directed against the other side. The treaty provided for development of political, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
