ScolopendriumScolopendriuma genus of ferns of the family Asplenidae. The fronds are simple and entire. Several species are found in the northern hemisphere. Contemporary classifications place the species of Scolopendrium in the genus Phyllitis or the genus Asplenium. Hart’s-tongue (P. scolopendrium, or A. scolopendrium) is distributed in Eurasia, North America, and North Africa. In the USSR it grows in shady places—mainly on mountain slopes in the western European USSR, the Crimea, the Caucasus, and Middle Asia.
