Simpson, Thomas

 

Born Aug. 20, 1710, in Market Bos-worth, Leicestershire; died there May 14, 1761. English mathematician.

In 1743, Simpson derived the formula for approximate integration that is known as Simpson’s rule. He also worked in the areas of elementary geometry, trigonometry, analysis, and probability theory.
