Tolmachevo

(prior to 1919, Preobrazhenskaia station), an urban-type settlement in Luga Raion, Leningrad Oblast, RSFSR. Tolmachevo is a landing on the Luga River, which empties into the Gulf of Finland. It is located at a railroad crossing across the Luga River, 12 km north of the city of Luga. The city has plants for the manufacture of reinforced-concrete structures and products and small rivercraft. The settlement, named after N. G. Tolmachev, is a tourist center.
