Scorodite contains 34.60 percent Fe₂O₃, 49.79 percent As₂O₅, and 15.61 percent H₂O; if it contains more than 16 percent P₂O₅, it is called phosphoscorodite. Scorodite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, forming dipyramidal, tabular, or prismatic crystals. Solid earthy aggregates, incrustations, spherulites, and microcrystalline druses are common. Scorodite is pale green, grayish green, or grayish brown in color. It has a hardness of 3.5—4 on the Mohs’ scale, and its density ranges from 3,100 to 3,300 kg/m³.

Scorodite is a mineral from the oxidation zone of deposits containing arsenical pyrites (for example, arsenopyrite) or loellingite. Together with these minerals, it serves as raw material for the extraction of arsenic. In the USSR, scorodite deposits are found in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Transbaikalia, and the Urals; it is also found in the German Democratic Republic (Saxony), the USA, and Brazil.
