Trapeznikov, Sergei Pavlovich

Born Feb. 6 (19), 1912, in Astrakhan. Soviet party figure and historian. Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1931.

The son of a worker, Trapeznikov graduated from the V. I. Lenin Moscow Pedagogical Institute, the Higher Party School Under the Central Committee of the ACP(B), and the Academy of Social Sciences Attached to the Central Committee of the ACP(B). In his youth he worked as a farmhand for kulaks. From 1929 to 1934 he engaged in Komsomol work in Middle Volga Krai; he carried out party work in Penza Oblast from 1935 to 1944. Trapeznikov was director of the Higher Party School Under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Moldavia from 1948 to 1956; at the same time he served as editor in chief of the journal Kommunist Moldavii.

From 1956 to 1959, Trapeznikov was a member of the administrative apparatus of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He was deputy rector for scholarly work of the Higher Party School Under the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1960 to 1965. In 1965, Trapeznikov was made the head of a department of the Central Committee of the CPSU. He became a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1966.

A deputy to the seventh through tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Trapeznikov has been awarded the Order of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
