The brightest stars are Antares (α) and the blue subgiant Shaula (λ), both 1st magnitude, and several of 2nd and 3rd magnitude. The area contains many star clusters, including the bright naked-eye open clusters M6 (NGC 6405) and M7 (NGC 6475), the globular clusters M4 (NGC 6121) and M80 (NGC 6093), and the X-ray source Scorpius X-1.
