synchronous bombing

synchronous bombing

[′siŋ·krə·nəs ′bäm·iŋ] (ordnance) Bombing done with certain bombsights, such as the Norden bombsight, in which the travel of the telescope, focused upon the target, is synchronized with the ground speed of the airplane, and the course flown is determined by manual adjustment of the bombsight, the two together determining the dropping angle and correcting for drift so that the release occurs at the right instant.
