Sinemurian Stage

Sinemurian Stage

the second stage from the bottom of the Liassic, or Lower Jurassic, series. It was identified in 1849 by the French paleontologist A. d’Orbigny near Semur, in Côte-d’Or, France. The Sinemurian is represented there by black limestones containing remains of lamellibranchs (Cryphaea) and ammonites (Arientitinae, Arnioceratinae, Echioceratinae, and Oxynoceratidae). Sinemurian strata are found in many places in Western Europe.
