Ulakhan-Chistai

 

a mountain range within the system of the Cherskii Range, Yakut ASSR. The range is about 250 km long, with elevations reaching 3,147 m (Mount Pobeda). The range is composed mostly of granites. The landforms are Alpine, with narrow interfluves (cirques, troughs, and hanging valleys). Glaciation is occurring within an area of about 100 sq km. Elevations to 900-1,000 m have sparse larch taiga, from 1,000 to 1,300-1,600 m there are prostrate cedar shrubs and mountain tundra, and at higher elevations there is rocky mountain desert.
