Situated at the base of the Ivanovskii Range, along the upper course of the Ul’ba River (a tributary of the Irtysh River). Served by the Ul’bastroi railroad station on the Lokot’-Lenino-gorsk line. Population, 5,500 (1976). Ul’ba has a mine that is part of the Leninogorsk Polymetallic Combine and a woodworking combine. A hydroelectric power plant is located nearby.

a river in Vostochnyi Kazakhstan Oblast, Kazakh SSR; a right tributary of the Irtysh River of the Ob’ River basin. The Ul’ba is 100 km long and drains an area of 4,990 sq km. It is formed by the confluence of the Grometukha and Tikhaia rivers, which rise in the Ivanovskii and Uba ranges in the Rudnyi Altai. It is fed mainly by snow. The mean flow rate is 100 cu m per sec. The river freezes in November or December and opens up in April. The city of Ust’-Kamenogorsk is located at its mouth. A hydroelectric power plant cascade is located within the Ul’ba River basin.
