Location:Off Route 9 in Belchertown.
Facilities:Visitor center, walking trails, scenic views.
Activities:Shoreline fishing (with restrictions), hunting (withrestrictions), hiking, bicycling (limited), bird watching, snowshoeing,picnicking (carry in, carry out), bird watching.
Special Features:Created in the 1930s, Reservoir is one of the largestman-made public water supplies in the U.S. In order to flood the SwiftRiver Valley, the entire population of four towns had to be relocated,including a railroad line and more than 6,000 graves. The primarypurpose of the reservoir and surrounding lands is to supply drinkingwater, so public access is carefully regulated and controlled.
