Scott Island


Scott Island

 

an island in the Pacific zone of the Southern Ocean; located about 600 km from Cape Adare, which is situated at the northeastern tip of Victoria Land. Scott Island is about 4 km long and 2 km wide. It is composed of basalts and is amost entirely covered with ice. The island was discovered in 1902 by W. Colbeck, captain of a ship on a British antarctic expedition, and was named in honor of R. F. Scott.
