Scott, Norman

(1889–1942) naval officer; born in Indianapolis, Ind. Entering the navy in 1907 and graduating from Annapolis in 1911, he served on destroyers in World War I. He served on the U.S. naval commission to Brazil from 1937 to 1939 and was a rear admiral by 1939. Leading a task force against the Japanese in the Solomon Islands campaign, he went down with his ship, the USS Atlanta.
