Quadi
Quadi
a Germanic tribe that lived north of the middle course of the Danube and along the upper Elbe and Oder rivers in the first century A.D. Between 166 and 180 the Quadi took part in the war of the Marcomanni against Rome, but they were defeated and forced to recognize the supremacy of Rome. They soon regained their freedom but were again subjugated in 375. In the early fifth century some of the Quadi migrated with the Vandals to Spain where they established their own kingdom in the northwestern part of the country, which lasted until it was conquered in 585 by the Visigoths. (The Quadi in Spain are sometimes referred to as the Quado-Suevians and their kingdomas Suevia.)
