[strə′päj·ə·nən] (biochemistry) A factor, possibly a peptide derivative of glutamic acid, reported to exist in certain proteins, acting as a growth stimulant in bacteria and mice in the presence of completely hydrolyzed protein. Also known as streptogenin.
