Tomari

(until 1947, Tomarioru), a city and the administrative center of Tomari Raion, Sakhalin Oblast, RSFSR. Tomari is located on southern Sakhalin, on the Tatar Strait. It has a railroad station 183 km northwest of Iuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Tomari has a pulp and paper plant. Local enterprises include plants for the production of wooden containers and cinder blocks, a logging and timber distribution establishment, a brewery, and a furniture factory.
