Scrambled Egg Appearance

A descriptive term for the changes of the optic fundus seen in stage 4 of Best’s autosomal dominant [MIM153700] vitelliform degeneration, which results from a deterioration of the uniform cystic lesion in stage 2; initially, there is a smooth sharply demarcated yellow-orange egg-yolk-like macule with little loss of visual acuity, affecting children and adolescents; later, the lesion degenerates, becoming scrambled-egg-like, resulting in retinal pigmentation, chorioretinal atrophy, and loss of vision
