Richards, Lloyd

(1923– ) stage director, actor; born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He began his career as a radio then television actor. Later, he mainly directed—the Great Lakes Drama Festival; the Northland Playhouse, Detroit; A Raisin in the Sun (1959) in New York; and a number of television productions. He served as artistic director of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and until 1991 was dean-artistic director of the Yale School of Drama and Repertory Theater, where he introduced many new American playwrights and theater people.
