Teleskop

(Telescope), a Russian magazine published in Moscow from 1831 to 1836 by N. I. Nadezhdin; V. G. Belinskii was copublisher in 1835–36. At first Teleskop came out once every two weeks, but in 1834 it was made a weekly. It contained a newspaper supplement called Molva (Rumor). Teleskop published articles by Nadezhdin and Belinskii and satirical pieces by A. S. Pushkin, under the pen name Feofilakt Kosichkin. The magazine was shut down after the first of P. Ia. Chaadaev’s Philosophical Letters appeared in print. Teleskop advocated a naturalistic literature close to the people and laid the ideological foundations of Slavophilism and Westernism.
