Richter, Gisela (Marie Augusta)

(1882–1972) art historian; born in London, England. Educated in England, she emigrated to the United States in 1905 and was naturalized in 1917. She was an influential curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City (1906–48) whose publications included Roman Portraits (1948), Archaic Greek Art (1949), Three Critical Periods in Greek Sculpture (1951), and A Handbook of Greek Art (1959), for many years the standard introduction to the topic.
