Arakcheevshchina

a policy of extreme reaction, police despotism, and crude militarism pursued by A. A. Arakcheev. The arakcheevshchina regime was marked by senseless drill and the discipline of the rod in the army, petty and formalistic regulation of life, and a cruel suppression of any manifestations of dissatisfaction, along with ostentatious magnificence. The word arakcheevshchina has become an epithet to denote arbitrary and police methods of governing the internal life of society.
