SpergulariaSpergulariaa genus of plants of the family Caryophyllaceae. The plants are annual, biennial, or perennial herbs with erect, ascending, or decumbent stems. The narrow-linear leaves have connately paired, tunicate stipules. The pink, purple, or white flowers are in racemose inflorescences; the perianth is five-parted. The fruit is a trivalve capsule with numerous, often winged, seeds. The approximately 30 species are found almost throughout the world, mainly on saline soils. In the USSR there are about ten species. S. rubra (previously S. campestris) is found throughout the country, growing in sandy areas, along roads, and as a weed in plantings of spring crops. S. marina (formerly 5. salina) and 5. media (formerly S. marginata) grow along the shores of seas and salt lakes and on solonchaks and solonetzes. Spergularia
