Victoria Nile

the section of the White Nile from its source in Lake Victoria to the point where it flows into Lake Albert (East Africa, Uganda). The Victoria Nile is approximately 420 km long. It intersects a stepped plateau, forming numerous rapids and waterfalls. The river flows through Lake Kyoga. The annual discharge decreases along the course of the river from 21 cu km to 19.7 cu km as a result of evaporation from Lake Kyoga and the surrounding swamps. In 1954 a hydroelectric power plant was built at Owen Falls, and other power plants are being planned between lakes Kyoga and Albert.
