synovial membrane[sə′nō·vē·əl ′mem‚brān] (histology) A layer of connective tissue which lines sheaths of tendons at freely moving articulations, ligamentous surfaces of articular capsules, and bursae. Synovial Membrane the inner layer of an articular capsule or osteofibrous canal through which muscle tendons pass. A synovial membrane consists of connective tissue and is fined with endothelium. It produces synovia. Villi cover the membrane, thereby enlarging its surface. The synovial membrane is rich in blood vessels, lymphatics, and nerve endings. Some patients may need instruction in the proper procedure for cleaning the teeth and removing debris and plaque, or they may need assistance in devising ways to cope with physical disabilities that make good oral hygiene difficult for them. Patients who are unconscious or unable to perform self-care activities should have mouth care as often as needed to keep the mouth clean and moist and avoid aspiration of debris and infectious microorganisms.
