Brand, Vance Devoe

 

Born May 9, 1931, in Longmont, Colo. US pilot and astronaut.

Brand graduated from the University of Colorado in 1953 with a B.S. in business and served in the US Marine Corps. Between 1960 and 1966 he was employed by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation as a flight test engineer and, after completing test pilot training in 1963, as an engineering test pilot. He was named an astronaut in 1966. Brand was a crew member with T. Stafford and D. Slayton aboard the Apollo spacecraft that flew from July 15 to July 25, 1975, in the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. The Apollo craft’s flight lasted nine days 1 hr 28 min.
